Type into the command bar XREFOVERRIDE and set the system variable to 1. This will make all XREFs in a drawing show as grey. If you are plotting a drawing and have XREFs as part of the drawing, using the XREFOVERRIDE is a good way to minimise the appearance of the XREFs, while leaving the focus of the plan on your coloured drawing.

If you need to change the greyed-out XREFs back to colour, simply type in XREFOVERRIDE back to 0, and all of the XREFs in the drawing will go back to being colour.

How to change the colour of all XREFs in a drawing to grey

  1. Type XREFOVERRIDE into the command bar

Type XREFOVERRIDE into the command bar to be able to change its system variable.

  2. Enter in 1

Type in 1 to change the XREFOVERRIDE system variable. This will make all XREFs in a drawing appear as grey.

  3. Reverse the change

If you want the XREFs to be colourful again, simple type in XREFOVERRIDE into the command bar, and enter 0 into the command var as the system variable.
